Google is in the process of developing software that will contribute to charging hybrids and electric vehicles more efficiently and reduce strain on the grid. Dan Reicher, director of Climate Change and Energy Initiatives has only gone so far as to say this “We are doing some preliminary work on smart charging of electric vehicles and how you would integrate a

“large number of electric vehicles”

into the grid successfully.” Dan Reicher went so far as to say that it has “done a little bit of work on the software side looking at how you would write a computer code to manage this sort of charging infrastructure.” However, according to Reuters, this isn’t the first time Google has dabbled in the electric Car sector, with it previously forming a partnership with Toyota and Ford back in 2007 to test some gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles converted into plug-ins that run mostly on electricity, which Google says it has been testing “pretty intensely” over the last few years.

The implication of the previous statements in my eyes is that

Google expects a large amount of Hybrid and electric vehicles

to be on the road within the next few years. In addition the attached video features Dan Reicher and in it he mentions Google’s interest in investing in numerous companies within the hybrid and all electric car sector.

If your reading this feel free to give us your opinion as to how many vehicles Google expects to be on the road for them to even consider developing this sort of software!? Do they expect hundreds? May be thousands? May be millions?
