The Contract, valued at $750,000.00, calls for Electric Car Company, (ECC), to convert up to twenty-five (25) Federal Coach bus chassis into Imperial Coach limobuses. The Company plans to deliver the first two buses by mid-August of this year.
It was reported in LCT magazine in January of this year that the Federal Coach Bus line manufacturer out of Goshen, Indiana, is no longer producing limousine-style interiors for its buses. Federal is now concentrating solely on shuttles and mass-transit style buses. This has created a vacuum in the limobus sector for the chauffeured transportation industry, one that Electric Car Company has been poised to exploit.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– For the first time a person in a wheelchair doesn’t need a large van or bus fitted with a lift to get around. A four-door sedan will now do the job, with a few innovative adjustments to make it a little easier to travel.

Imperial Coach Builders has retrofitted a Lexus E350 to make it easier for the owner to get in and out. At the touch of a button, the car opens up, allowing easier access.
Imperial wants to show war veterans who are back from Iraq and Afghanistan that they have another option, other than a minivan or bus. Workers at Imperial say they’re proud to be a part of the project.
The company hopes to be able to help more people out there with disabilities. If the prototype works, and everything goes well, it could produce several hundred cars a year.
The Lexus conversion costs about $13,000. However, a domestic car will be much cheaper. Also, if they can mass produce the cars, the cost will go down. Imperial is shopping the car to Veterans Administration hospital patients.

The proposed Joint Venture is subject to the execution of a definitive agreement.
The joint venture will focus initially on the conversion of large luxury 4×4 vehicles like the Range Rover, using Liberty’s groundbreaking proprietary electric power train technology as well as the manufacture of unique new Electric Vehicles like the exciting Bug “e” project. Initially based at the Electric Car Company conversion center in Springfield, Missouri, the agreement will also include the establishment of further conversion centers across the United States on a franchise or company-owned basis.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Apr 26, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) — Electric Car Company, Inc. (OTCBB:ELCR), a vehicle conversion Company that specializes in electric conversions and manufacturing for the Livery and Fleet Markets, today announces that for the first three months ended March 31st, 2010 the Company reports $584,000.00 in signed purchase orders. This represents a total of 13 vehicles being manufactured or converted into specialty vehicles.
Estimated sales reported in the first three months of 2010 represent more than half of the entire revenues generated in 2009. It is important to note that actual revenue to be realized by the Company is dependent on delivery of the vehicles and may not be reported as revenue during the first quarter. It is expected that all vehicles will be completed and delivered by the second quarter of 2010.

In the 10-K recently released for year ended December 31st, 2009, the Company reported total revenues of $1,144,000.00 with a net loss from continuing operations of $1,911,499.00. Losses are attributed to high start up costs as well as a softening of the credit available in the automobile market.

The Electric Car Company (ECC) reports that approximately 50% of orders in the first quarter consisted of buses to be converted into specialty “Party Buses” commonly used for special events such as weddings and sporting events. The balance of production consists of standard limousines manufactured from Cadillac Escalades, Ford Navigators and Hummers.

Among the limousines being manufactured are 2 “Pink” super stretch limousines. ECC has committed to make a contribution to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, (www.bcfo.org), for every pink limousine sold. Implementing “Lean Manufacturing” processes and lowering overall manufacturing costs gives the Company a competitive advantage in the market.
By utilizing the Training Grant awarded to the Company, an independent team of efficiency experts was hired to help overhaul its production process at no cost to The Electric Car Company. The goal is to drastically reduce lead-time and mistakes while improving staffing for the job by reconfiguring traditional assembly lines into productive cells based on one-piece flow.

As a result several steps were taken. The Company has been able to reduce its full time assembly force from 30 down to 19. Any additional labor will be brought in on a job-by-job basis, which also saves on excessive overtime costs. Other areas have been streamlined such as the accounting, marketing and administrative staff that have been reduced by 50%.

The Company has also taken steps to ramp up sales by reducing the salary expense of its sales personnel while increasing the commission structure. When I first heard of this concept I was completely confused but when I saw the video I was convinced that this process made sense. In addition Better Place provides a software that lets you know where the nearest charging stations and switch stations are. This is important due to the fact that all electric vehicle owners typically experience anxiety when their battery runs low. Knowing that there is a station within range helps avoid this issue.

Hsbc, Lazard Asset Management and Morgan Stanley Investment Management, also seems to be convinced about this companies ability to create an electric car charging infrastructure. In fact, they are so convinced that they invested 350 million dollars into Better Place giving the company a new valuation of 1.25 billion dollars. The company is not public at this point but my Gutt is telling me that this company will most likely be public in the near future.

This is purely speculation at this point but if Better Place decided not to go public it may decide to be acquired by one of  its partners.
